Coon Rapids-Andover American Little League’s 12-year-old all-star team, continued to represent Minnesota and the north metro proudly after moving within one game of the Midwest Regional title, and a spot in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., after a 4-0 win against Timberline Little League (Rapid City, S.D.) Aug. 6.
Behind a one-hit shutout by pitcher Nick Dainty and leadoff home run by shortstop Wil Goodin, Coon Rapids improved to 5-0 in the regional tournament played in Indianapolis.
Dainty struck out nine batters and walked one in seven innings of work.
All four runs were scored by the leadoff batter of an inning including Lucas Mccain who scored on base hit by Carson Syke in the third inning. John Koenig drew a four-pitch walk to start the fourth inning and scored on an infield ground ball off the bat of Goodin.
Dainty scored the final run after beating the throw from the South Dakota shortstop. Syke drove Dainty home for the final run of the game.
One final hurdle remains before Big Red, as the team is known as, can continue its summer road trip to Williamsport. Friday afternoon the ballclub faces Urbandale, Iowa for the Midwest Region championship.
The teams didn’t meet in pool play.
A viewing party at Andover Lanes is set for the 12:30 start to watch the game broadcast live on ESPN from Stokely Field.
