A threesome of some of the top area girls’ prep golfers placed second in the 53rd annual Minnesota Golf Association Junior Team Championship played at Ridgeview Country Club in Duluth Aug. 2-3.
The Rum River Hills-based team of Andover’s Sierra Langlie and Hailey Tollette along with Spring Lake Park’s Aly Rogers nearly won the team tournament that trails only the state high school championship in stature.
Rum River Hills carded a 41-over par, 325, nine strokes back of Detroit Lakes Country Club (32-over) for the title and eight strokes ahead of Elk River Golf Course through two rounds that counted for the team race.
Langlie also placed second in the overall individual standings with matching scores of 78 strokes, 14-over. Detroit Lake’s Katherine Marie Smith was six over with matching rounds of 74 (154 strokes).
Rogers tied for ninth place with a 28-over 170 and Tollette tied for 19th with a two-round total 178.
Langlie and Tollette continued a busy week by participating in the Minnesota Section of the PGA Women’s State Open, played at The Wilds in Prior Lake Aug. 6-7.
• The team from Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine, led by teaching professional Tom Kirkland, held off Bunker Hills to capture the Minnesota PGA Pro-Junior Championship played at Bunker Hills July 31. Victory Links, Bunker Hills and StoneRidge GC all carded rounds of 12-under 60s with Edinburgh USA fourth at 11-under.
Victory Links comprising junior golfers Tanner Ylvisaker, Jack Hiemanz and Nick Turnquist captured the team title after a chip-off to decide the winner.
