SLP teachers still negotiating
A sixth negotiation session between the Spring Lake Park school board and teachers was held Aug. 22 and at that time the board expected a counter proposal from the teachers.
The initial teacher proposal (May 19) called for language changes in 20 percent of the present master contract, added cost benefits in the area of group insurance coverage and increases in present salary schedules. The teachers’ proposal would have increased the teacher employee costs to the school district by 27.78 percent over the next two years.

Earth Sports Expo
There was much to see and do at the Earth Sports Expo, held at the National Sports Center in Blaine last weekend.
There were several displays and hands-on activities that were available to the public. Among them were Midwest Mountaineering with a 30-foot climbing wall.
Another popular item took place on the pond outside the NSC, where people tried their hand at canoeing, water peddle bikes and other boating fare.
Then there was the Earth Awareness Portable Classroom, a 22-foot diameter model of the planet.
