Traffic stop leads to driver’s fourth DWI in 10 years

A traffic stop by a Spring Lake Park Police officer has resulted in two felony DWI charges being filed in Anoka County District Court against the driver.

James Carr Lynas, 26, Big Lake, was arraigned in court on the charges July 29 when bail of $30,000 without conditions or $6,000 with conditions was set. He is due back in court Aug. 26.

The early morning hours of July 26, the office noticed a vehicle make a left-turn at 81st Avenue and Arthur Street without signaling, according to the complaint.

Initiating a traffic stop, the officer identified the driver as Lynas and allegedly noticed he had a smell of alcohol on his breath, his eyes were glassy and his speech was very slurred.

Lynas allegedly failed field sobriety tests, then blew a .231 on the preliminary breath test and later at the police station following his arrest, the Datamaster showed that Lynas allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of .18.

The charges are felonies because Lynas has three prior DWI convictions in the past 10 years – 2006 in Morrison County, 2007 in Anoka County and 2012 in Hennepin County.
