Man pleads guilty to vehicle theft, felony domestic assault

A 46-year-old man pleaded guilty Aug. 27 in Anoka County District Court to felony domestic assault and motor vehicle theft charges.

According to the court file, Dano Patrick Waller, Sr. was arraigned Aug. 13 on these two charges and an additional charge of felony terroristic threats, which will be dismissed at sentencing Sept. 24.

According to the criminal complaint, his ex-girlfriend told police that Waller the evening of Aug. 9 approached her vehicle while she was at a McDonalds in New Brighton and demanded she drive him to Andover to buy drugs.

While en route, he said he had a gun and would kill her if she did not comply. She also accused him of punching her in the chest and arms several times.

When they got to Andover, she pulled into the County Market parking lot and ran out of the car. She told police Waller stole the vehicle. It was located the next day in a ditch along an Andover ride.

When Waller was later arrested, he said in a post-Miranda statement that he stole the vehicle, but denied assaulting his ex-girlfriend in any way.

According to the complaint, Waller has three prior convictions in St. Louis County that all happened in November 2004. There were two charges for violation of an order for protection and one charge for violation of a harassment restraining order.
