Drivers may encounter delays and off-peak lane closures on both directions of Highway 65 just north and south of Viking Boulevard on Monday, Sept. 9.
Beginning at 9 a.m., both directions of Highway 65 at Viking Boulevard in East Bethel will experience intermittent lane closures as crews begin lengthening the left-turn lanes on the highway.
In addition, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, Viking Boulevard just east of Highway 65 will close as crews remove and replace the culvert under the roadway. Drivers will not be able to travel east on Viking Boulevard past the Highway 65 intersection. Viking Boulevard west of Highway 65 will remain open.
The road will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
The entire roadway improvement project is expected to be complete by Friday, Sept. 27, weather permitting.
Extending the left-turn lanes will shorten wait times, improve safety and traffic flow on the highway as well as lower the risk of rear-end crashes by reducing the need for turning motorists to begin slowing down while still in the through lanes of Highway 65.
