Market and more bloom, grow at Mary T.

Mercury tickled the hundred-degree mark in thermometers throughout the area last week. Even so, local farmers laid out bushels of bounty for the weekly farmers market on the Coon Rapids campus of Mary T. Inc.

For the third consecutive year, the Anoka County Growers Association set up stands on the 118th Lane campus Wednesday afternoon for a weekly farmers market.

The market allows Mary T. Inc. to offer fresh produce to its employees, residents and the surrounding community from 3-6 p.m. every Wednesday, July through September.

Each week brings a new assortment of fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers available for purchase.

Among local growers sharing their harvest are Larry and Sandi Golyer (Lone Wolf Greenhouses, Oak Grove). The Anoka County Farm Bureau recently named the Golyers the Anoka County Farm Family of the Year.

“We’re just happy to be here, sharing fresh local produce and helping people know how to use it,” said Golyer.

The Anoka County Growers Association farmers market isn’t the only thing growing at Mary T. Inc., said spokeswoman Courtney Spies.

“Margaret Place, an independent senior apartment building under the Mary T. Inc. umbrella, is working on a new project this year to bring fresh produce to its residents,” she said.

Spies described the raised garden beds staff built for residents to use to garden and grow fresh herbs and vegetables.

“The Margaret Place gardening club now works in the garden to provide fresh produce that is used in meals prepared in the Margaret Place dining room,” she said.

Mary T. Inc. farmers market location is at 1442 118th Lane NW, Coon Rapids.
