Cardinal Mile added to Coon Rapids Homecoming events

Coon Rapids boys’ cross country is hosting its first Cardinal Mile Time Trial and Roller Ski Exhibition Mile in front of Coon Rapids High School Sept. 25.

The one-mile time trial includes a roller ski exhibition to help introduce prospective skiers to the sport.

The out-and-back-course follows the homecoming parade route. Walk-up registration is open from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in front of Cardinals Stadium on the north side of Northdale Boulevard.

The roller ski exhibition mile will begin at 5:48 p.m. with the mile time trial to follow at 5:50 p.m.

The parade will start at 6 p.m. or once the last competitor goes through the half-mile marker.

A $5 entry fee will be used to promote distance running programs at Coon Rapids High School including Nordic skiing.

Elementary school students enrolled at Coon Rapids schools can run for free alongside a current member of the Coon Rapids cross country team.

Helmets must be worn by roller skiers and awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each event.
