SLP festivities begin tonight

A 6:30 p.m. band concert kicks off Spring Lake Park’s first Community Celebration this evening, setting off a long series of events and activities scheduled to last through Sunday evening.

Two highlights of Saturday’s events include a parade and canoe race.

Teachers file intent to strike notice

Teachers in Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 filed a notice of intent to strike Tuesday, the first day the 10-day strike notices could be filed with the Bureau of Mediation Services.

But Mike Travers, president of Anoka-Hennepin Education Association (AHEA) was quick to point out that this did not mean that the district’s teachers would be going out on strike.

Superintendent Chris Huber dedicated the new track at Spring Lake Park at halftime of the Panther’s football home opener. The track, which was constructed over the summer, became a reality because of a $175,000 donation from the Spring Lake Park Lions.
