Financial One Credit Union celebrating 80 years

Financial One Credit Union will celebrate its 80th anniversary and welcome its newly appointed president, Ross Bloomquist, by having a ribbon cutting and cook-out Wednesday, Sept. 25 at noon at its Coon Rapids location.

Since Financial One opened its doors in 1933, a lot has changed, according to Mandy Meisner, director of community outreach.

Technology has allowed the services of credit unions, not-for-profit financial cooperatives, to expand far beyond deposits and loans, and enables convenience for many transactions to be done from the home or office, Meisner said in a press release.

The next item to bring value to Financial One’s members using technology is mobile banking, which is slotted to roll out by the end the year, she said.

“Financial One has made a name for itself as a strong community partner,” Meisner said.

Projects include Hops for Hunger, a fundraiser for Southern Anoka County Assistance, which raised enough money for the local shelter to buy 75 pounds of food, several sponsorships have been made to Columbia Heights Highland and North Park elementary schools and a new program that benefits veterans though the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota was launched in August, she said.

Financial One recently won a national grant from, a financial resource company based in San Francisco, Calif., for its creative Gen Y initiative, which will provide tools and advice to empower youth to manage their financials, according to Meisner.

Bloomquist was appointed as president and chief executive officer of Financial One July 19. He has spent 20 years in the industry and has been with Financial One as the executive vice president since 2009.

“My title may have changed, but some things will never change, like my commitment to serving our members — which is the reason we exist,” Bloomquist said.

“The success we’ve had at Financial One is due to our talented and dedicated staff. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

In addition to the ribbon cutting, Financial One will also be hosting a membership appreciation week Sept. 23-27 at all three locations (Coon Rapids, Blaine and Columbia Heights). Find out more at
