A man accused of assaulting a woman in Coon Rapids faces two felony charges in Anoka County District Court.
Cody Lane Pedersen, 23, no permanent address, was arraigned in court Sept. 6 on charges of violating an order for protection and domestic assault. Bail was set at $10,000.
The afternoon of Sept. 5, Coon Rapids Police were asked to check on a man walking toward the Egret Boulevard bridge.
Located at the intersection of Egret and Kumquat Street, the man was identified as Pedersen. As they were talking with him, police were told that Pedersen had assaulted a woman who was just down the street, according to the complaint.
The woman told police she had two children with Pedersen and an active protection order prohibiting him from having any contact with her, the complaint alleges.
She alleged they got into an argument at a townhouse and it escalated to the point where Pedersen pushed her into a fence, causing a scrape on her left arm.
In a post-Miranda statement, Pedersen allegedly admitted to knowing about the protection order, having contact with the woman in violation of the order and pushing her during the argument.
The domestic assault charge was a felony because Pedersen has two prior felony domestic assault convictions, one in 2010 and the other in 2011, plus an active felony arrest warrant.
