Man killed after rear ending bus on Highway 65 in Blaine

An 80-year-old East Bethel man died Monday evening in an accident on Highway 65 in Blaine after he rear ended a Metro Transit bus, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the sheriff’s office said Robert Allan Kimber died in the crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Blaine Police Department at 5:38 p.m. Sept. 23 was dispatched to the area of Highway 65 and 89th Avenue NE in Blaine.

Sommer said Kimber was northbound on Highway 65. All other traffic was stopped for a red light and police do not know why Kimber did not stop. He sideswiped a vehicle before rear ending the bus.

Kimber, the lone occupant of his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were sustained by people in the other vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office, Blaine Police, Metro Transit Police, Minnesota State Patrol and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
