The Spring Lake Park High School child development class is looking for children ages three to five to participate in Panther Playtime Playschool. Ten one-hour “Playschool” sessions begin Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Playschool will be from 1:10-2:45 p.m. Nov. 5-8, Nov. 12-15 and Nov. 19-20 in the school’s child development classroom. Participants will spend an hour on each of the 10 days learning basic skills, creating art projects, playing games, singing songs and interacting with their classmates. Each day will feature different activities.
The high school students will serve as “teachers” and take turns leading.
There is no fee for the Panther Playtime Playschool experience.
Children will be greeted at Door 33 on the west side of the high school at 1 p.m., escorted to the classroom by students in the child development class and escorted back to their parents at the same door at 2:45 p.m.
Twenty-year veteran family and consumer sciences teacher Lori Henry will be in the classroom at all times during the one-hour classes.
To learn more, have questions answered or to register, contact Henry at Lhenry@district16.org or 763-600-5100.
The registration deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Students in the child development course learn about parenting, prenatal care and the physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of the child. Many of the students are considering a career with children, such as teaching, pediatrics, day care or nursing. Hands-on learning and observations are an important part of the class. Most students have been trained in first aid or CPR.
