The St. Cloud State University wrestling program will offer a youth wrestling clinic from 8 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 in the Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse. The SCSU wrestling clinic will feature guest clinician Shamus O’Grady, a four-time All-American and the 2013 NCAA Division II champion at 184-pounds. O’Grady is a graduate of Coon Rapids High School and is currently serving as a student coach at SCSU in 2013-14.
The cost of the clinic is $45 per person, or you can receive a special team rate of $40 per person if you register with a group of five-or-more. The clinic will include two sessions of instruction from the SCSU coaches and wrestlers, a motivational talk, lunch and a souvenir clinic t-shirt. The clinic is open to all wrestlers in grades K-12.
The clinic will open with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the first session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The day will conclude with an autograph session with members of the SCSU wrestling team at 2 p.m. All clinic participants will then have an opportunity to stay and observe the Huskies’ wrestling practice that afternoon from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
One of SCSU’s wrestling legends, O’Grady completed his collegiate career in 2012-13 with a 108-28 career record. He gained All-America status four times during his career and won the 2013 NCAA DIvision II championship at 184-pounds. He helped guide the Huskies to second place national finishes in 2011, 2012 and 2013 along with regional championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and NSIC championships in 2012 and 2013.
O’Grady gained the Outstanding Wrestler award at the 2013 NCAA championships and was a two-time regional champion for the Huskies. As a senior, O’Grady tied a team record with 40 wins (40-1).
