“Making Space for God in a Busy World: A Day for Exploring New Ways of Engaging Faith and Life” is the topic of a day-long experience offered at Faith Lutheran Church, 11115 Hanson Blvd. NW, Coon Rapids, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16.
The keynote presenter will be Rev. Donald Postema, author of the best-selling book, “Space for God.”
The title of his presentations are “Does God Have Any Adult Friends?” and “Making Space for our Divine Friend” (a two-part presentation).
Postema described what he hopes people will experience during the Nov. 16 event at Faith.
“Our day together will focus on developing a deep awareness of our friendship with God in Jesus as a solid and practical basis for spirituality and prayer,” he said.
“We will be encouraged to make space in our lives for our divine friend by befriending various spiritual attitudes and disciplines.
“Through tasks, conversation, silence, prayer exercises, meditative singing, worship, and workshops, we will enhance our relationship with God and with each other.”
Postema will do three interactive presentations during the day-long event.
He will also preach at services at the church Nov. 17.
The afternoon of Nov. 16 a series of workshops will be offered to expand the theme of the day.
Workshop topics include Faith and the Arts, Finding Cyber/Space for God, Discovering Your Spiritual Type, Reading the Bible Again for the Very First Time, The Practice of Yoga and Finding Space for God in Small Groups. Each workshop will be offered twice.
Postema is an ordained minister in the Christian Reformed Church of North America and served as a campus minister at the University of Michigan for 34 years.
He is a graduate of Calvin College and Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, Mich., and of the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
