In October 2012, several community members came together to bring the vision of HOPE 4 Youth to life. HOPE 4 Youth is currently a provider of drop-in center services for homeless youth, ages 12-23, in the north metro area.
The drop-in center, 2665 4th Ave. N, Anoka, is a place where youth stop in after school and on weekends. It is a place to share a meal, receive food and clothes, use shower and laundry facilities and work with staff to utilize resources available to find shelter, apply for employment, finish schoolwork and obtain necessary resources to help youth take command of their lives.
At that time, more than 650 documented youth were experiencing homelessness in the area. But the numbers keep increasing. Now more than 700 youth have been identified as homeless with 25-50 living on the streets. As winter approaches the need to provide services is even more critical.
The mission and vision of HOPE 4 Youth, www.hope4youthmn.org, is that all youth feel safe, valued and supported while reaching their full potential. This begins with meeting their basic needs and leads to giving them the tools and resources to thrive.
An opportunity for the community to show its concern and support is to attend a fundraiser Nov. 16. Gala 4 Hope is the theme of the event and its goal is to help provide the needed financial resources to continue and extend the services to include overnight housing.
The event will be held at Green Haven Banquet Center in Anoka beginning at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7:30 p.m. Green Haven Golf and Banquet Center is located at 2800 Greenhaven Drive.
The gala is an evening of food, games with cash prizes, silent and live auctions. A limited number of tickets will be sold for the surf and turf dinner with dessert. The event is hosted by Vennekretsen Lodge, Sons of Norway in Anoka.
