Cross Country: Three area runners conquer 7AA field to earn place at state race

Andover senior Maddie McKeefry qualified for her fourth state cross country meet by placing fifth in a time of 14:57.3 at the Section 7AA cross country meet at Cloquet Country Club Oct. 24.

Huskies eighth-grader Skylar Sandin was 34th and sophomore Kateryn Breuckman was 35th in 16:19.7 and 16:20.1, respectively, to help the team place sixth.

Forest Lake won the girls’ title with three runners among the top seven finishers and edged Elk River by 31 points. The Elks had six of seven runners place in the top 26 spots.

St. Francis finished 14th place, five points behind Cambridge-Isanti.

Saints junior Madison Berwald was 60th, while seniors Samantha Brewer and Rebecca O’Hotto placed 63rd and 69th, respectively.

Boys

Andover boys were one spot outside the state qualifying runner-up spot, 23 points behind Chisago Lakes and 48 points behind champion Cloquet.

Huskies senior Chris Meados was fifth in 16:36.3 to advance to state. Sophomore Alec Lorimer was 13th and junior Nathan Engstrom was 14th in 16:49.0 and 16:50.6, respectively. The two were one and two positions out of the state qualifying places.

Sophomore Lucas Olson was 25th in 17:23.6. Senior Simeon Toronto was 52nd in 18:05.0. Junior Ian Mead and John Pahr finished one-tenth of a second apart in 60th and 61st places, respectively.

St. Francis senior Grant Olsen qualified for state with a seventh-place finish in 16:44.1. The Saints placed 11th out of 16 teams.
