Stylized, loud, brash, and campy, “Grease” is the word.
“Grease” is the original high school musical and beneath its brash exterior lies a smart, sensitive, and surprisingly real foundation.
Anoka High School’s teen-aged thespians invite you to come and experience the ‘50s through the eyes of Danny and Sandy, Rizzo and Kenickie when “Grease” takes the Tornado stage beginning Nov. 1.
A talented and energized cast of Anoka’s students bring to life “Greased Lightning,” “Summer Nights,” and “We Go Together” as director Shaun Felegy and his cast and crew push the limits on how big “Grease” can be.
“We are going to take it in a slightly different direction by pushing the technical aspects of the show yet still staying true to the original feel. The singers are outstanding and the dancing is over the top. It is ‘Grease,’ and it is going to be big,” said Felegy, who first appeared in “Grease” 20 years ago as a freshman at Anoka High School.
Felegy directs this year’s production of the classic play as his directoral debut for Anoka after directing for many years at Northdale Middle School.
Anoka’s “Grease” stars Jacob Tige as Danny and Sarah Smith as Sandy.
Michelle Hayes is the vocal director. Mike Halstenson is the music director directing the live band that will accompany the live action on stage. Technical director is Niffer Pflager; costume design is by Brandi Mans; and Felegy and Megan Marcy choreographed the show.
Reserved seating tickets ($10 for adults; $8 for students and seniors) can be purchased at the door or by calling the box office at 763-506-6439.
