East Bethel man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting teenaged girl

An East Bethel man, accused in Anoka County District Court of sexually assaulting his live-in girlfriend’s daughter over a period of years, has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

David James Pankow, 51, entered a guilty plea Sept. 16 to one of two felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct counts. He will be sentenced Nov. 13.

According to the complaint, the girl, now 18, told an investigator that she had been sexually assaulted by Pankow since she was 13 or 14 years old.

Pankow would frequently try to make deals with her when she needed things, such as hair products or a cell phone, telling her that she would get those items if she performed sexual acts, the complaint states.

After the most recent incident, when she was sleeping in her bedroom and awoke to find Pankow touching her, she told him to stop and not touch her.

Pankow apologized to her the next day and told her that he would not touch her anymore if she did not want him to, according to the complaint.
