Shoplifter allegedly fled police; faces two charges

A shoplifter allegedly fled Coon Rapids Police in his vehicle resulting in both felony and misdemeanor charges being filed in Anoka County District Court.

Tarmaine Philon Taylor,, 33. St. Paul, was arraigned in court Oct. 31 on felony fleeing police in a vehicle charge as well as a misdemeanor theft count. Bail was set at $20,000.

Coon Rapids Police responded to a theft call from Walmart, 13020 Riverdale Dr. NW., Oct. 28 where a loss prevention officer observed a male take merchandise and leave the store without paying for it, despite employees’ attempts to stop him, according to the complaint.

A description of the suspect was given to police as well as the license plate number of the car in which he drove off.

Responding officers spotted the car on eastbound Highway 10 near Hanson Boulevard, but after activating emergency lights and sirens to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly failed to stop and he drove for three miles before exiting Highway 10 on to Foley Boulevard, accelerating past a car before entering a parking lot and stopping between two vehicles.

Police identified Taylor as the driver and inside the car allegedly found $254.50 worth of items from Walmart.

In an in-person show-up at Walmart, the loss prevention officer allegedly identified Taylor as the person who stole the merchandise and left the scene in a car.
