A string of armed robberies was reported in Blaine and Spring Lake Park Thursday evening. Law enforcement believes they are related.
Three suspects were apprehended shortly after the incidents. Five police departments and the Anoka County Sheriff’s office were involved.
According to a press release from the Blaine Police Department, three victims were robbed at gunpoint on the 1000 block of County Road 10, Spring Lake Park; near Able Street NE and 87th Lane NE, Blaine; and on the 1100 block of 95th Avenue NE, Blaine, between 11 and 11:15 p.m. Nov. 7.
The victims’ description of the suspects and weapon seemed to match, according to the press release.
A Blaine Police officer allegedly saw a vehicle matching the victims’ descriptions speeding through a stop sign at 99th Avenue NE. Pursuing the vehicle, the officer found it “crashed and abandoned” on the 900 block of 102nd Lane NE, the release states.
A shotgun or rifle-style weapon was recovered from the vehicle.
Blaine, Coon Rapids, Spring Lake Park, Fridley and Columbia Heights police departments, as well as the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, established a perimeter and the three suspects were apprehended, the release states.
During the apprehension, a Blaine Police canine allegedly injured one of the suspects, who was taken to the hospital. All three suspects were eventually taken to the Anoka County Jail, according to the release.
Later, the crashed vehicle was discovered to have been allegedly stolen at gunpoint in St. Paul earlier in the evening.
