Coon Rapids Senior Services will host a Veterans Day event Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Coon Rapids Senior Center.
Government offices and the senior center will be closed on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11.
Doors will open for the special red, white and blue day at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 12.
Patriotic music will be performed by a choir of some 65 Eisenhower Elementary School students, directed by Cathy Yseth.
Following the program, the children will hand out mint candy in patriotic wrappers to the audience.
A Volunteers of America Senior Dining lunch will be served at noon. The menu includes herb roasted chicken, corn, potatoes, dinner roll and apple pie.
At 12:45 p.m., the movie “Honor Flight” will be shown.
It’s a documentary about four World War II veterans and a Midwest community that comes together to fly then to Washington, D.C., to see the memorial constructed for World War II veterans in 2005, some 60 years after the war.
There will be door prizes after the movie and a representative from the Anoka County Veterans Service Office will be present to answer questions.
There is no charge for veterans to attend the event thanks to Mary T, Inc. and the Coon Rapids Super Senior Club.
For non-veterans the charge is $8 and is due by Tuesday, Nov. 5.
