Come and see a new take on classic literature when Roosevelt Middle School presents its first fall show, “The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet” and “The Seussification of a Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
“I promise that this will be a very different and very fun spin on two stories you know well,” said Shanan Edelheit, director of “Seussifications” at Roosevelt.
Edelheit said both shows retain a majority of the plot and characters and themes of Shakespeare’s classics.
“However, both take a more light-hearted path to reach the shows’ conclusions that the originals did,” he said. “Come to the theater prepared to laugh very hard and to see a new interpretation of something you know.”
The show takes classic literature – often difficult to understand and engage by a modern audience – and puts it into a far more understandable place, Edelheit said.
“My hope is that (this show) will expose a younger generation to the plethora of classic literary options available to them,” he said.
“Seussifications” take the stage at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, and 16.
Tickets ($5, adults; $3 students and seniors; free for children under age three) are available at the door.
