Hamilton hearts burn with patriotic fervor

With patriotic hearts burning with pride and warming spirits all around, Hamilton Elementary School, Coon Rapids, students and staff celebrated Veterans Day with outdoor activities on a chilly Monday morning.

Students assembled outside, circling the flagpole while Hamilton Hurricanes Helpers raised the flag and veterans saluted Old Glory.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, patriotic melodies were sung and students and staff took a memorial lap around the track, walking in silence in honor of U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

“It’s because of you we go to bed safe. It’s because of you we wake up safe. We want to honor you – simply but sincerely – we want to say ‘Thank you,’” Principal Diane Merritt said to dozens of military veterans attending the Veterans Day activity as guests of Hamilton students and staff.
