For Blaine resident Stuart Gates the holiday season means presents and gifts and happiness all around – but not the way you might think.
You see, Gates presents himself as a gift, offering enjoyment and happiness to audience members as he plays the part of a hotel manager in the Guthrie Theater’s holiday performance of “Born Yesterday.”
And this isn’t Gates’ first time to take the stage at the Guthrie. In past appearances, Gates has appeared in the 2011 and 2012 performances of “A Christmas Carol,” playing the roles of Mr. Wimple, David, Jobber and Belle’s husband.
The aspiring actor has been part of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie BFA actor training program.
“Born Yesterday,” Garson Kanin’s screwball comedy about a corrupt businessman trying to get ahead in Washington, D.C., plays opposite the Guthrie’s 39th annual production of “A Christmas Carol.”
The play is a Broadway triumph turned 1950 Academy Award-nominated film and begins with preview performances Nov. 23, opens Nov. 29 and continues through Jan. 5 on the McGuire Proscenium stage at the Guthrie Theater (818 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis).
Single tickets start at $35. For times, dates, and tickets contact the box office at 612-377-2224 or 612-225-6244 (group sales) or visit www.guthrietheater.org.
