A benefit comedy show will be staged at the Coon Rapids American Legion tomorrow evening (Saturday, Nov. 30), 8 p.m.
Roger W. Peterson Productions is presenting the show, titled “One for the Fryer.”
According to Peterson, former club manager at the Coon Rapids American Legion, the proceeds from the show will go toward the purchase of another fryer for the kitchen.
“I am no longer the club manager, but will be doing comedy benefit shows at the Legion to help raise money,” Peterson said.
Earlier this year, Peterson produced a comedy show to raise money for the project to put a new roof on the Legion post, which was completed this fall.
Peterson, who is emcee for the evening, has produced many comedy shows in Albuquerque, N.M.
“I enjoy making people laugh, especially for a good cause,” Peterson said.
Peterson also likes to showcase local talent as well.
Featured guest at the show is Kord Waldemar, who has headlined at Meister’s in Shoreview and now tours the state with his comedy act, as well as hosting and producing comedy shows at Two Stooges.
He met Waldemar at Coon Rapids’ Yes and Food while they were performing at the open mic together, Peterson said.
Also on the program is Dwight York, who has performed at many of the country’s top comedy clubs and headlines at the Buffalo Chip Comedy Club and at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.
He has also appeared at the Great American Comedy Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and has been a two-time finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Contest.
York has also been a guest on the nationally syndicated “The Bob and Tom Show.”
The Legion show contains adult language and situations; no one under the age of 18 will be admitted.
According to Peterson, tickets for the VIP section are sold out, but plenty remain for the club and reserved levels as well as general admission.
“There are no bad seats in the hall,” Peterson said.
Club level tickets are $82 per table of eight or $9 single seats, while a table of eight can be reserved for $64 with $8 single seats. General admission is $7.
