A juvenile female returned to the Anoka apartment unit where she lives and found a neighbor standing in the hallway after he had allegedly stolen her underwear.
James Anthony Howard, 36, was arraigned in Anoka County District Court Nov. 15 on a felony first-degree burglary charge.
He posted bail Nov. 18 and is due back in court Dec. 17. The court has issued a no contact order.
The afternoon of Nov. 7 police responded to an apartment building on Euclid Street where the girl reported she had found a neighbor, identified as Howard, in the hallway of the unit when the arrived back home, according to the complaint.
She confronted Howard, who allegedly ran from the apartment, down the stairs of the apartment building into a small area under the staircase, where the girl found him sweating profusely and sitting on the floor with his tank top over his knees, rocking back and forth.
The girl noticed a pair of her underwear on the floor next to Howard, who allegedly initially denied taking her underwear, stating he was only in the apartment to return two cats that had got out.
However, in a later post-Miranda statement, Howard allegedly admitted to police that he entered the apartment without permission and took the girl’s underwear.
