USA Hockey will be holding two training camps for two different Women’s National Teams at the Schwan Super Rink at the National Sports Center (NSC) in the coming weeks in December.
The U.S. Women’s National Team will arrive first, December 14-18. This team, which will become the official 2014 Olympic Team when the final roster is announced on January 1, includes five players with Minnesota ties:
Megan Bozek, Buffalo Grove, Ill., twice won national championships as a defenseman for the University of Minnesota.
Amanda Kessel, Madison, Wis., was a two-time national champion at the University of Minnesota, and she won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award in 2013.
Gigi Marvin, Warroad, played for the University of Minnesota from 2005 to 2008, and was a member of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team.
Anne Schleper, St. Cloud, played for the University of Minnesota from 2008 to 2012, and was a member of three U.S. World Championship teams, in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Lee Stecklein, Roseville, finished her freshman year at the University of Minnesota where she won a national championship in 2013, and is on currently on leave from the Gophers to play with the U.S. National Team.
The National Team will hold practices and scrimmages on rink 6 of the Schwan Super Rink, and all will be open to the public and are free of charge. A detailed camp schedule will be released next week.
Additionally, a free public meet-and-greet and autograph party with Team USA will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 15 at the Hat Trick Café at the Schwan Super Rink.
The second training camp will be for the U.S. Women’s Under-18 National Team, December 26-31. This camp will select the roster for the IIHF U18 World Championship, March 23-30 in Budapest, Hungary. The roster of the 27 players who will be invited to the U18 Training Camp at the NSC will be announced by USA Hockey during the week of December 9. The roster will definitely include several Minnesota players.
