Coon Rapids man faces two felony assault counts

A Coon Rapids man faces two felony assault charges in Anoka County District Court following a domestic incident.

Kellen Lon Hunt, 50, was arraigned in court Nov. 26 on two second-degree assault counts.

Coon Rapids Police were dispatched to a residence on 113th Lane in the early hours of Nov. 23 on a domestic dispute in progress and found Hunt, who was intoxicated and admitted to having been in an altercation with two other men a short time earlier, according to the complaint.

Witnesses alleged that Hunt had been drinking, became aggressive, got into an argument with one of the men and pushed a television set off a stand, breaking it.

When a woman intervened, she was pushed to the ground, but when the other man got involved, the argument calmed down and the two men hid in a bedroom, the complaint alleges.

But Hunt allegedly retrieved a red aluminum baseball bat, confronted the two men again and struck both of them in the head with the bat before the woman eventually disarmed him.

According to the complaint, Hunt said he was going to get his firearm and went to the bedroom to find it, locking the door.

The two men fled the residence and when the woman entered the bedroom, she allegedly found Hunt holding his rifle, but was able to persuade him to put it down.
