Children in the community were invited to the Coon Rapids American Legion Saturday morning to have breakfast with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
This is a long-standing holiday event hosted by the Coon Rapids American Legion and its ladies auxiliary and this year for the first time, the American Legion Riders motorcycle group.
Children visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus and each received a gift and a candy cane.
There were also other activities for the children, while families were treated to a breakfast of scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and hash browns as well as orange juice and coffee.
According to John Valley, Coon Rapids American Legion third vice commander, who chaired the event with Shirley Mosher of the ladies auxiliary, about 200 people attended the event, including those who registered ahead of time and walk-ins.
There were also 30 volunteers that worked the event. “That’s more then we expected,” Valley said. “People have the Christmas spirit.”
