For the Adams Kids Only Shop event, which has been a tradition at the school for decades, an area was set aside in the gymnasium by the school’s parent advisory council where children could purchase at nominal cost gifts provided by the council – without their parents or family members being present.

Instead, helping the children shop were volunteers, who included adults, Coon Rapids High School and Coon Rapids Middle School students, many of whom had attended Adams themselves, as well as fifth-graders from Adams.

According to Kimberly White, who chaired the event with Susie Griffin, at least 150 students signed up for the event and volunteers numbered close to 30, almost half of them students.

Musical entertainment was provided by a Coon Rapids High School ensemble and Santa Claus, himself, was present to visit with children.

Refreshments were served in the cafeteria, where children could do a craft project.
