A. CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chairperson Stroebel called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. School Board members present: Stroebel, Vranish, Delfs, Amundson, Forsberg, Hennen, Ruch, along with Superintendent Ronneberg and Student Council School Board representatives Dempsey and Vu. School Board members absent: None
B. AGENDA APPROVAL
The agenda was approved as presented.
C. SOME FUTURE EVENTS
Chairperson Stroebel read aloud the future events listed in the agenda.
D. CONSENT AGENDA
The items of the consent agenda were approved.
E. PRESENTATIONS, SPECIAL GUESTS, AND RECOGNITIONS
1. Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) – Lori Henry, Family and Consumer Science teacher, SLPHS; Rick Osborne, Alex Pierce, Josh Anderson – juniors at Spring Lake Park High School. The boys shared with the Board their Chapter Service Display presentation in which they earned at Gold Rating at the 2013 FCCLA National Leadership Conference.
2. Election Update from Anoka County – Ms. Cindy Reichert, Anoka County Elections Manager, gave a brief update on the November 5, 2013 election.
F. DISCUSSION, REPORTS, INFORMATION ITEMS
1. Effective Operations: Improve our effective management of human, financial, and physical resources.
Monthly Financial Report – Ms. Amy Schultz, Director of Business Services, reviewed the monthly financial report for September 2013 including treasurers report, expenditures, and revenue.
Alternative Learning Center (ALC) Transition Update – Mr. Ryan Stromberg, Director of Human Resources and Kristin Hauge, Spring Lake Park High Schools ALC Director and NEMetro 916 principal, gave an update on the districts partnership with NEMetro 916 and the transition to the 2014-15 school year when NEMetro 916 will provide programming for Spring Lake Park School District students in the ALC program.
Update on Make Your Mark – Ryan Stromberg, Director of Human Resources and Colleen Pederson, Director of Community Education gave a brief update on the Make Your Mark customer service initiative.
2. Superintendents Report – Dr. Jeff Ronneberg, Superintendent of Schools
Superintendent Ronneberg updated the Board on the Student Athletics and Activities study.
G. ACTION ITEMS
1. Resolution Canvassing Returns of Votes of School District General Election
RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS OF VOTES OF SPRING LAKE PARK INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 16 GENERAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 5, 2013
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Spring lake Park Independent School District No. 16, State of Minnesota, as follows:
1. It is hereby found, determined and declared that the General Election of the voters of this school district held on November 5, 2013, was in all respects duly and legally held.
2. As specified in the attached Abstract and Return of Votes Cast, a total of 253 voters of the district voted at said General Election on the election of four (4) school board members for four (4) four (4) year vacancies on the board caused by expiration of term on the first Monday in January following the general election. Votes cast for the office are as follows:
Kelly Delfs, 155 votes, elected; Marilynn Forsberg, 168 votes, elected; John Stroebel, 173 votes, elected; Jodi Ruch, 184 votes, elected; Write-In, 26 votes.
4. Kelly Delfs, Marilynn Forsberg, John Stroebel, and Jodi Ruch, having received the highest number of votes, are elected to four (4) year terms beginning on the first Monday in January, 2014.
5. The clerk is hereby directed to certify results of the General Election to the county auditors of each county in which the school district is located in whole or in part.
6. After the time for contesting the election has passed and the candidate has filed all campaign financial reports required by Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 211A, the clerk is hereby directed to deliver a certificate of election to each person entitled thereto. The clerk is also hereby directed to enclose with the certificate a form of acceptance of office and oath of office.
Roll Call: Ayes: Delfs, Forsberg, Ruch, Amundson, Hennen, Vranish, Stroebel; Nays: none. The resolution was duly adopted.
2. American Education Week, November 18-22, 2013
The resolution designating Nov. 18-22 American Education Week in Spring Lake Park Schools was adopted.
3. Authorization of Issuance of Individual Procurement Cards (P-Card)
Authorization of a procurement card for Hope Rahn was approved.
4. Acknowledgment of Gifts
Gifts to the District were acknowledged and approved. The Board extended their thanks and appreciation.
H. BOARD FORUM AND REPORTS
Student Council School Board Representatives Dempsey and Vu gave updates on high school events. Member Vranish attended the high school PAC meeting and attended a recent AMSD meeting.
Member Forsberg gave an update on NEMetro 916, EMID, attended the Fall Play, Park Terrace PTA meeting.
I. CLOSED SESSION
Motion to enter in to Closed Session to discuss employee Negotiations and proposed student expulsion was approved. Entered in to Closed Session at 8:10pm.
Motion to reconvene the meeting was approved. Meeting reconvened at 8:30pm.
G. ACTION ITEMS, CONTINUED
5. Approval of UAW Local 125 – Learning Ventures 2013-2015 Agreement
Learning Ventures 2013-15 Agreement was approved.
6. Resolution Relating to the Expulsion of the Student Identified Herein as the Student
The resolution relating to the expulsion of the student was adopted.
J. ADJOURNMENT – was approved. Meeting adjourned at 8:32pm.
