Anoka came away with a 10th-place finish in the team standings highlighted by four place winners at the Minnesota Christmas Tournament in Rochester Dec. 20-21.
Coon Rapids was 21st among the 33-team field with two placewinners (Tyler Berdahl was fifth at 182 pounds and Justin May was eighth at 152).
Individually, Tornadoes eighth-grader Tyler Eischens won the 106-pound weight class to become the youngest Anoka wrestler win a title at the prestigious holiday tournament.
Eischens, ranked eighth in the state (Class AAA), earned the title with wins over sixth-ranked Payton Robb of Owatonna by a fall, No. 9 Keaton Schorr from Kasson-Mantorville and top-seed Jared Franek of West Fargo, N.D. The win over Franek was an 11-9 overtime decision. Eischens (13-0) earned a 4-1 decision over fourth-ranked Kyle Rathman of Apple Valley in the finals.
Anoka senior Brandon Krone and junior Matt Njos placed third at 152 and 170 pounds, respectively and freshman Calvin Germinaro was fourth at 113 pounds.
Krone, ranked No. 2 at 152 pounds (AAA), improved to 15-1 overall after Ricky Galindo of Bismarck, N.D., withdrew with an injury before their third-place match.
Njos, ranked No. 3 at 170 pounds (AAA), beat Kollin Kragnes of West Fargo, N.D., 3-1 in overtime in the third-place match to improve his overall record to 15-1.
Germinaro, ranked eighth at 113 pounds (AAA), lost to Owatonna’s Tanner Cole (ranked fourth at 113) by a technical fall (16-1). The loss drops Germinaro’s season record to 13-5.
Coon Rapids’ Berdahl, ranked 10th at 182 pounds (AAA), won a 6-2 decision over Simley’s Michael Avwunuma in the fifth-place match.
May, ranked seventh at 145 pounds (AAA), lost a 9-5 decision to Rochester Mayo’s Brady Nelson (ranked seventh at 152) to place eighth.
Anoka and Coon Rapids will compete (along with Andover and St. Francis) at the Rumble on the Red in Fargo, N.D., Dec. 27-28 and will wrestle for the Golden Boots traveling trophy at Coon Rapids High School Jan. 2.
The day before the Christmas tournament, Coon Rapids earned a 37-30 win at St. Francis.
Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony scored a 46-24 North Suburban Conference win over Fridley before traveling to Osseo for a non-conference dual.

Many of the top programs in the state sent their junior varsity teams to Anoka for a Christmas team tournament Dec. 21.
Apple Valley won the 16-team tourney over runner-up Foley and third-place Cambridge. Coon Rapids was fourth and Anoka was ninth.
