The deadline for entries in the annual Coon Rapids Junior Royalty Pageant has been extended.
Originally scheduled to close Dec. 15, applications will now be taken through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014.
The pageant is Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 in the Coon Rapids High School auditorium and will part of the annual Coon Rapids Snowflake Days celebration, which marks its 50th anniversary next year.
There are four divisions – petite for girls ages five to seven; petite for boys ages five to nine; junior for girls ages eight to 12; and teen for girls aged 13 to 16.
The pageant is open to boys and girls that live, attend school or worship in Coon Rapids.
The $75 entry fee includes a pageant T-shirt, pizza party, snacks at rehearsals and participation trophy.
Competition is based on 50 percent interview with the judges and 50 percent modeling with personal speech, according to Diane Buszta, pageant director.
Orientation for and photos of the candidates will take place from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at Sand Creek Elementary School with a pizza party and the first rehearsal at Sand Creek Elementary from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.
Rehearsals have also been set for Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Sand Creek Elementary and Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. in the Coon Rapids High School auditorium.
Candidates’ personal interviews are from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at Eisenhower Elementary School, Coon Rapids.
There will be a dress rehearsal in the high school auditorium from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 prior to the pageant, which begins at 1 p.m.
Winners are expected to take part in a minimum of 19 parades as well as coronations and various community events and activities during Coon Rapids Snowflake Days and throughout the year.
And as a group the 2014 Coon Rapids Junior Royalty will perform 10 hours of community service for the city of Coon Rapids.
Tickets to attend the pageant at $8, while children under four years of age get in free.
