Hometown comics ring in new year with plenty of laughs

Two of the funniest guys who’ve ever lived in your neighborhood take the stage for a New Year’s Eve comedy show at the Coon Rapids VFW. Laughter begins at 8 p.m.

Bob Larson and Joe Tanner have been yucking it up on separate tickets for years, but decided to combine their talents and entertain the hometown crowd to ring in the new year.

Tanner is a third-generation Anokan and attended Franklin Elementary School, which was practically right in his own backyard. His mother and most of his seven brothers and sisters still live in Anoka County and Tanner graduated with the Anoka High School class of 1978.

Larson is a Coon Rapids resident whose two kids attend Coon Rapids Middle School and Coon Rapids High School.

So these two guys definitely know something about what’s funny in Anoka and Coon Rapids …

They’ve both enjoyed success with comedy entertainment over the years. Tanner working with Louie Anderson and Scott Hansen and doing stand-up at Rapids Sports Bar and the Yes & Food Improv Bar in Coon Rapids and Green Haven Golf Club in Anoka.

Larson recently did a couple of Christmas parties in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and in Dickinson, N,D. He’s also taken the stage at Pepeto’s restaurant in the Crusty Old Men show.

ArtsNewYr2For Tanner, the Coon Rapids VFW New Year’s Eve show will be the closing act of his comedy career.

“I want to go out on a great note and I think a New Year’s Eve show is the perfect setting,” Tanner said.

Even though the show serves as closing act for Tanner, New Years Eve Comedy at the Coon Rapids VFW is sure to generate lots of chuckles and even a few belly laughs, too.

“We will bring lots of laughs in a great show to end 2013 and bring in 2014,” Larson said. The New Year’s Eve show that “won’t just tickle your funny bone … but break it in two,” he said.

Coon Rapids VFW is located at 1919 Coon Rapids Blvd., Coon Rapids. Show-only tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Prime rib dinner/show tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
