Activity, discovery, education and fun for all is sure to abound when Anoka-Hennepin Community Education presents its annual Community Wellness Day.
The free Jan. 25 event, which takes place 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roosevelt Middle School, presents an opportunity for children and families to learn more about good health and to practice good healthy habits.
Those in attendance can witness demonstrations, receive vaccinations and get their vitals checked.
Keynote speakers for the event are O’Neal Hampton, Jr., a contestant on television’s “Biggest Loser” season nine, and Kristen Brown, bestselling author of “The Happy Hour Effect.”
New this year, as Community Wellness Day comes to a close, a brand-new inflatable obstacle course will be floating in Roosevelt pool.
Playing on the equipment is said to be “fun for water lovers of all ages” and Wellness Day participants will receive a fee coupon for open swim, 1-3 p.m. that day.
But before open swim begins, a wide variety of free classes and wellness sessions will be on tap during Community Wellness Day, including:
• Cirque-elation hoop dance
• Curvy cardio sampler
• Discover scuba
• Intro to break dancing
• Raising healthy kids
• Protecting young athletes
• Stress management 101
• Trash to treasure
• Resources for healthy living
Community Wellness Day also includes a family book swap. Bring in gently used books and trade the books you have for the books you want.
Children, teen and adult fiction and selected non-fiction books are welcome for the swap. However, no textbooks, magazines, or travel guides will be accepted. For more information about the book swap, call 763-506-7859 or 763-506-1277.
