Coon Rapids High School hosts cheerleading competition

The third annual Coon Rapids High School Cardinal cheer classic cheerleading competition will take place Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 11 a.m., at Coon Rapids High School.

The national anthem precedes the first performance and several Coon Rapids cheerleaders will be performing.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming 33 teams from 23 schools across Minnesota and one from Wisconsin to our school and community this year,” said Kelley Welf, vice president, CRHS Spirit Booster Club.

There will be teams competing from the elementary and middle school divisions, junior varsity and varsity teams, stunt groups plus three elite teams from Jam Hops in attendance.

In addition, there will be a demonstration from the World Taekwondo Academy in Coon Rapids.

The Coon Rapids Middle School and CRHS varsity winter sideline squads will perform, as well as the Coon Rapids varsity competition cheerleading squad.

Numerous vendors will be attending, as well as food from local establishments Texas Roadhouse, Acapulco and Chanticlear, Welf said.
