Nominations open for business excellence awards

The MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations and applications for its annual 2013 Excellence in Business awards.

Winners will be recognized at a chamber membership lunch Thursday, Feb. 6 at Majestic Oaks.

There will be four categories and one winner in each.

• Micro business – sole proprietors or businesses that have four or fewer employees.

• Small business – five to 20 employees.

• Business – 21 or more employees.

• Not-for-profit – 501c3 organizations, including nonprofit, governmental and educational.

According to Lori Higgins, chamber president, based on members’ feedback, categories have been updated for the 2013 awards to better reflect the chamber’s membership.

The not-for-profit category has been added to the awards program.

To be eligible, nominees or applicants must be a chamber member for at least one year and in business for at least three years as of January this year.

The awards recognize “exemplary chamber businesses for their performance, innovation and community commitment.”

Winners will be notified in advance and a special video highlighting their business will be created for the award ceremony.

The program begins at noon Feb. 6 at Majestic Oaks, with registration starting at 11:30 a.m.

Keynote speaker is Stewart Mills, third generation owner of Mills Fleet Farm.
