Bob Powell, a retired fifth-grade teacher at the school who still substitutes when needed, is an avid train collector. Every year, just before winter break, he brings some of his train sets to the media center at Mississippi.

Throughout the day, according to Principal Mark Hansen, each class in the school will head down and spend 15 minutes talking to Powell about his trains and playing with them.

And while the students clearly got a kick out of the train sets, nobody’s smile was bigger than Powell’s. “Aren’t they neat?” he asked a group of students.

“Yeah,” the children shouted in unison as Powell turned out the lights to reveal the trains even light up. Their reaction to that: “Wow!”
