Anoka-Hennepin District 11 and Spring Lake Park District 16 have called off classes and activities Thursday, Jan. 23, with the wind chill expected to drop between 35 and 40 degrees below zero.
All buildings will be closed.
An alert on the Anoka-Hennepin website states that the decision to cancel school was made considering recommendations from the U.S. Weather Service that suggest “‘exposed skin may freeze in as little as five to 10 minutes … the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken.’”
A wind chill warning is in effect in the area until noon tomorrow.
St. Francis District 15 will start two hours late.
