Wilson offers fun for families during fitness night

Laughter and cheer bounced around the gymnasium as hundreds of students and their families danced and played during Wilson Elementary School’s Jan. 16 family fitness night.

Staged to promote healthy exercise and fitness in 2014, the evening offered a playbook filled with a variety of activities. Among them: wall climbing, hula hooping, navigating the spider web climbing net, dancing to the beat of high-energy rock and roll and step counting with each step recorded on a pedometer.

Minnesota Vikings cheerleaders also stopped by, boosting children’s energy and encouraging healthy living by striking a pose for a souvenir snapshot.

Anoka-Ramsey Community College nursing students were also on hand to check blood pressure and help kids and their families understand the importance of good cardiovascular activities.

“This is such a fun night and we’re so happy so many came when it’s this cold out. It just shows how much fun you can have by being active – and how good it is for you, too,” said Principal Ranae Evenson.
