Replacement of Coon Rapids lift station given go-ahead

The city of Coon Rapids reconstructs a sanitary sewer lift station every year as part of its 10-year sanitary sewer capital improvement program.

Lift Station No. 9 at 10749 Mississippi Blvd. is scheduled for replacement in 2014.

The Coon Rapids City Council Jan. 21 accepted a proposal from SEH, the consulting engineering firm, to provide engineering services for the reconstruction project.

The SEH fee is $64,800, while the estimated construction cost is $550,000.

Funding for the project will come from the city’s sewer utility fund, which derives its revenues from the quarterly utility bills that are sent to property owners.

SEH will prepare a preliminary and final engineering report as well as construction plans and specifications, assist the city in the bidding process, negotiate a construction contract with the successful bidder and provide inspection services during reconstruction work, according to Tim Himmer, city public works director.

Lift Station No. 9 serves an area in the southwest part of the city along Mississippi Boulevard, Himmer wrote in his report to the council.

The project will be bid in the spring with construction starting in early summer and completion in the fall, he wrote.
