Andover boys and Armstrong girls won respective Northwest Suburban Conference Nordic skiing team titles at the conference championships at Wirth Park in Minneapolis Jan. 29.
Andover held off Armstrong by two points for the boys’ title highlighted by three finishers among the top 10 overall.
Andover junior Lucas Heib was second after the freestyle race and finished third overall, 1:23 off the winning time by Armstrong’s Jon Delaney. Sophomore Ian Mead placed sixth overall, 2:24 off the winning pace, and freshman Sam Anderson scored valuable team points with a 10th-place finish in the pursuit.
Erik Larson was 15th, John Pahr was 25th and David Keller was 26th to round out the top six scorers.
Coon Rapids placed sixth and was led by all-conference honorees Micah Johnson and Kyle Merhrof.
Cory Mecl led Anoka with a 17th-place finish and the team was eighth overall.
Blaine eighth-grader Ben Olson placed 41st and the Bengals placed 10th out of 10 teams.
Andover girls’ placed third, 31 points behind champion Armstrong and 18 points behind Elk River.
Huskies senior Maddie McKeefry was fourth overall, eight seconds off the winning time by Armstrong sophomore Hannah Rudd.
Andover sophomore teammate Katie Breuckman placed 15th and freshman Ashley Cofrin was 27th.
Armstrong placed seven skiers among the top 10 finishers to dominate the conference finals.
Coon Rapids girls placed fifth led by all-conference honorees Kaitlyn Benson, Sam Benson, Susan Porter and Katie Kiecker.
Senior Lindsey Gast led Anoka with a 12th-place finish and senior Heather Jensen was 14th in the pursuit and the team placed sixth.
Blaine seventh-grader Sarah Olson placed 41st to lead the Bengals to a ninth-place finish in the field of 10 teams.
