Lyric Arts announces a new series of education workshops to be offered as spring break day camps, running Monday through Friday, March 10-14. Three different camps will be offered to students grades K-12.
For grades K-3, the “Beauty and the Beast” half-day morning workshop brings to life the story of a selfish, enchanted prince and the clever, lovely young woman he imprisons in his castle. Students will build self-confidence, explore creating a character and learn simple staging and choreography as they rehearse selections from the Disney adaptation of this classic fairy tale.
“Dorothy Meets Alice” is a full day workshop for grades four-eight that follows the misadventures of a magical meeting between Alice of Wonderland and Dorothy of Kansas. When characters like the Cowardly Lion, the White Rabbit, the Tin Man, the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen and the Wicked Witch try to untangle their tales, hilarious hijinks ensue. Students will build self-confidence, creativity and essential theater skills while rehearsing selections from this twist on two family favorites.
Students grades seven-12 will have an intensive afternoon workshop based on the best-selling Veronica Roth novel “Divergent,” centered around a dystopian world where young men and women decide their future by choosing their allegiance to one of five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite.
In this workshop, students will develop their own artistic voice, improve their acting skill, and build self-confidence as they rehearse scenes from this coming-of-age story filled with courage, conviction and heartbreak.
Registrations for spring break workshops are open through March 1. Registration forms and further information can be found online at www.lyricarts.org/workshops, or complete your registration by phone by calling 763-233-0804.
