White studies program evaluated in District 16

A study in white racism and the problems it has created in society has been the topic in School District 16 secondary social studies classes the past three weeks as part of the Council on Quality Education of the State of Minnesota. Some 1,700 students took the three-week course along with 60 adult students who sat in the social studies classes.

SLP teachers vote strike

Members of the Spring Lake Park Teachers Federation voted to strike against School District 16 at a rally Wednesday night. A strike date could be set shortly after a necessary 10 day waiting period. Issues still in dispute are the economic package and contract language. Elementary teacher preparation time and teacher transfers are also areas of disagreement.

Council concerned about impact of country road reconstruction project

Two proposed county highway projects have decidedly different appeal to the city of Spring Lake Park. One project, the reconstruction of Osborne Road from Central Avenue to Stinson Boulevard, brought little comment from the Spring Lake Park City Council at its Feb. 7 meeting. The other project, the reconstruction of Central Avenue from 73rd to 81st avenues, was not well received by the council.
