Search leads to drug charges

A search warrant executed by the Anoka Hennepin Drug Task Force at a Coon Rapids apartment unit has led to two charges being filed in Anoka County District Court against a Coon Rapids man.

Jacob Landen Garcia, 25, was arraigned in court Jan. 27 on first- and fifth-degree controlled substance crime charges.

Garcia posted bond Jan. 28 and is due back in court Feb. 24.

The search warrant on the 10800 block of Xavis Street was executed by the drug task force June 24, 2013.

Garcia was one of two people detained in the apartment and he was the target of the search warrant, according to the complaint.

In the search, a shoe box was found in a closet that allegedly contained several plastic baggies in which there was a green leafy substance that field-tested positive as marijuana, and a large plastic “tear off” containing a white substance that field-tested positive as cocaine.

The complaint alleges that the marijuana had a total packaged weight of 186 grams and the cocaine a packaged weight of 29 grams, the latter the reason for the first-degree controlled substance crime charge.

In a post-Miranda statement, Garcia allegedly admitted he was in possession of the marijuana and cocaine.
