Third priest who served locally accused of abuse

The names of nine more former priests that have been credibly accused of abusing children has been released by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

This is in addition to a longer list that came out in December after Ramsey County District Court ordered the archdiocese make the a list public; that list  includes dozens of former priests accused of abuse and dates  back to 1950.

The updated list released Monday includes Gerald Funcheon, 75, a former priest who served from 1974-1975 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and again at the Anoka parish in 1985 as an associate pastor.

Funcheon, who also served at St. Odilia in Shoreview early in his career, as well as outside the archdiocese, was removed from the ministry in 1993.

Named to the list released late last year was Michael Stevens, 58, who served as an associate priest at Epiphany Church in Coon Rapids from 1982 to 1988.

In 1987 Stevens pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in Anoka County District Court.

Also named was Richard Skluzacek, who served as an associate pastor at St. Stephen’s in Anoka in 1966-1967. He was permanently removed from ministry in 2005 and died in 2012 at the age of 80.

A comprehensive disclosure of the names can be found on the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis website

According to the archdiocese, this list will continue to be updated as part of an ongoing review of clergy files.
