Concert band presents annual Cathedral Concert

The North Suburban Concert Band performs its annual Cathedral Concert 2 p.m. March 2 at Meadow Creek Church, 3037 Bunker Lake Blvd. NW, Andover.

The concert is free to attend, but freewill donations will be accepted and will be donated to Family Promise of Anoka County, a network of churches assisting people who are homeless.

Joining the North Suburban Concert Band for three pieces featuring the trombone section will be Dean P. Sorenson, an associate professor and director of jazz studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Sorenson will solo with the band for its performances of “Blue Bells of Scotland” by Arthur Pryor, “Teddy Trombone” by Henry Fillmore and “The Trombone Rag” by John Higgins.

Other selections presented during the March 2 Cathedral Concert include “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” by Irving Berlin, “Amor de Mi Alma” by Z. Randall Stroope and “Two Slavonic Dances” by Antonin Dvorak.

The concert band is a non-audition group comprised of members from the north metro It rehearses 7:30-9:30 p.m. Monday evenings at Coon Rapids Middle School, 11600 Raven St. NW, Coon Rapids.
