The business is owned by Dave Markquart and Dean Marshall, who also serves as general manager.

They opened a Skeeter Boat Center in Chippewa Falls, Wis. in 2008 and started with one other employee. Within three years, they became the largest Skeeter boat dealer in the Midwest. Over the last two years, the Chippewa Falls location was the second or third largest dealer of Skeeter boats out of approximately 165 locations nationally, according to Markquart.

They noticed about half of their customers drove from the Twin Cities, so it made sense to expand into Minneapolis-St. Paul market.

With this second location open in Ramsey and their flagship store in Wisconsin doing well, they now employ 14 and are still growing.

“We’re excited to be part of the community,” Markquart said. “We think this Ramsey area, northwest metro, is the best place for us to make the first move up to the Twin Cities.”

According to the national Skeeter Performance Fishing Boats website, the first Skeeter fiberglass boat was designed and launched in 1948. In 1961, the company built the first bass boat from fiberglass. In 1975, it introduced the “Wrangler,” which was the first v-bottom bass boat.

The Skeeter Boat Center in Ramsey sells fiberglass bass boats, deep v-bottom boats whose hulls are designed to handle larger waves on lakes like Mille Lacs, and multi-species boats whose hull depth is between the size of a bass boat and deep v-bottom boat. They also sell War Eagle jon boats.

Yamaha owns the national Skeeter boat company, so all boats come with Yamaha outboard motors and they sell separate motors as well in case you want to boost the power on your current watercraft.

Markquart said services offered include boat maintenance and repair, and electronics and accessory rigging.

“And helpful fishing advice,” Marshall chimed in.
