Giovanni Sanchez, 16 a junior at Blaine High School, has earned the highest advancement award The Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. Sanchez was recognized in a ceremony Feb 15, 2014 in Ham Lake.
A member of Boy Scouts of America, Troop 136, Giovanni Sanchez is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Tom Merino.
Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community service project to earn his Eagle; Sanchez chose to renovate the park entrance for Twin Birch Park in Ham Lake. This park is one Giovanni frequented as a young boy, and he always felt the entrance needed some work. The restoration included a rock pathway, repair and staining the park entrance fence, cutting down shrubbery and some replanting and landscaping.
Sanchez has served as both assistant and senior patrol leader.
Sanchez is a member of Church of St. Paul, is an honor student in CEMS (Center for Engineering, Math & Science) and active in lacrosse at Blaine High School. He also participates in a local sea cadet unit. Sanchez is also the founder of his own air soft team.
He is the son of Adrian and Lorlee Sanchez of Ham Lake.
